How much can change in a week? Ohhhhh, honey. But you know? We’re here and we’re FaceTiming and thoroughly washing our hands like McSteamy does before surgery, sending each other memes and uplifting stories until this storm passes and that is a beautiful thing. Below is a smattering of things that haven’t made me ugly cry with anxiety, and I hope in sifting through it you find something that leaves your heart just a little bit lighter.
Listen. Everyone in Austin knows it, but it’s never felt more true. El Arroyo’s sign is the city’s greatest treasure.
“Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart, and you’ll never walk alone.” These lyrics weren’t familiar to me until I heard the story of a Dutch radio DJ who came up with the idea for radio stations across Europe to play “You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry & The Pacemakers at the exact same time. I’ve had it on repeat ever since and not without tears.
NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert with Harry Styles is every synonym for damn good in every modern and ancient language. And if that’s not enough to endear him to you (you monster), here’s the behind-the-scenes interview that followed, explaining his love for the Green Bay Packers.
Seeing how Austin is corralling around its beloved local bars and restaurants is a thing of beauty. Consider the Austin Virtual Tip Jar or take a gander at this impressive list of fundraisers and creative ways businesses are looking out for their people in the service industry.
I’ve finally gotten to Queer Eye in Japan and if it’s not the most heartwarming television experience in times like these, I don’t know what is.
Speaking of which, Antoni’s Quar Eye: Cooking Lessons in Quarantine happens to be the best thing on Instagram right now. An excellent nightcap to these never ending days.
As a proud new owner of a Ninja Blender, I’m ready to dive into this list of No Recipe Smoothies by Healthyish. First up is the PB&J smoothie.
The past few days I’ve been enjoying Bon Appétit’s Roasted Tomato Soup. It’s a budget friendly and silly easy meal to make. And bonus! The depth of flavor is tip-my-hat-to-you impressive.
Like so many others, virtual happy hours and more FaceTime sessions than I can count have unexpectedly shown up in my life in a big way. The Daily’s Alone Together special episode made my heart swell, highlighting different ways people are using technology to stay connected.
Finally, on heavy rotation is Joseph’s Good Luck Kid album. Tireless.
Peace, love, and wash your hands.
