104 DAYS IN FRENCH

104days Bonjour! Hello! My name is Finally Getting Started. Also Sally. I answer to both.

“I must create a system, or be enslaved by another man's. I will not reason and compare: my business is to create.” - William Blake

One of my all-time favorite quotes, it's high-time to embrace it and create. Just create. A long-time sufferer of perfectionism, just beginning is easier said than done. So what to do?

Becky Simpson, artist, mentor, and OMG-I-want-to-be-more-like-you inspiration, suggested that I start with a timed project. I gave it a lot of thought since I wanted to make sure that if I aimed for something like 100 days, I could be excited about it from start to finish. What do I love? Like LOVE love? French! Bien sûr.

Especially after a recent trip to Québec, where the Québecois were gracious enough to let me practice my rusty French with them, this project solidified in my mind. Not only will I get the practice I need of making a daily habit out of art, but I'll get to flex my muscles with writing and French again -- things I've dearly missed for a long time. And holding myself publicly accountable on a blog seems like a good way to start.

Why 104 days instead of 100? Simple! It will give me a chance to cycle through the alphabet four times. By April 5th, I'll have four different illustrations for each letter.

Today, I bought a watercolor art journal and... just began! Why wait 'til the new year? Perfectionism be damned!
